What is Syphilis?
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that can be transmitted during vaginal, anal, or oral sex and the birthing process. The infection develops in stages (primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary). Each stage may have unique symptoms including:
- Sores
- Rash
Untreated Syphilis can lead to life-threatening symptoms and may cause damage to internal organs. If you are sexually active, regular sexual wellness testing will promote your overall health.
Syphilis, if detected, may be treated with antibiotics.
